Extending the validity of a permanent residence card
An application for an extension of the validity of a residence card is filed at the MOI office based on your address, on a relevant application form.
Foreign nationals must file an application for an extension of the validity of a residence card at first 90 days before its expiry.
If a foreign national is prevented from reporting a change within the legally required period due to reasons outside of his/her control, he/she must report the change within 3 working days of these reasons ending. The foreign national must prove these reasons. If the change is not reported within the legally required period and there is no obstacle that is outside of the foreign national’s control, the delay in reporting a change will be judged as a violation and a fine can be imposed.
Along with the application for an extension of the validity of a residence card, the foreign national provides:
- a travel document / passport (containing the visa or residence sticker)
- the Czech residence card, if it has been issued as a separate document
These changes can be reported by a different person on the basis of a power of attorney. The power of attorney must demonstrate that it was signed for this specific purpose. The signatures on the power of attorney do not have to be notarized. If the change is not reported by the foreign national in person, he/she will be asked to arrive personally to provide biometric data. Administrative fee of submission of application is CZK. A submission of the application is charged with the administrative fee CZK 2 500. If the applicant is a minor under 15 years of age, the administrative fee is CZK 1 000. It is necessary to pay the administrative fees in the form of stamps (kolek).
If a foreign national reports the change at an MOI office that does not have technical facilities to collect biometric data, he/she will be asked to provide his biometric data at a different office. It is recommended that the foreign national make an appointment at the relevant office as soon as possible. The new biometric card is not issued on the spot and a foreign citizen will be called to visit the appropriate office to verify his/her biometric data and to collect the card in person.
