EN - Assisted Voluntary Returns

Implemented by the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy at the Ministry of the Interior of the CR

What is an assisted voluntary return?
Through the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, the Ministry of the Interior of the CR helps foreign nationals who have the legal obligation to leave the territory of the Czech Republic but are facing obstacles, which prevent them from complying with such an obligation. An assisted voluntary return means that we will help you solve the problems associated with your travel. Do not risk an illegal stay and a long-term ban on entry into the territory of the Czech Republic or the EU. We will get you an air ticket as well as, if necessary, a new emergency travel document. If you decide to leave the territory of the Czech Republic under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, you will return to your country of origin like an ordinary tourist, without the presence of the Police of the Czech Republic. Your departure always takes place in a dignified manner.

For whom is the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme intended?
Are you legally obliged to leave the territory of the Czech Republic, meaning have you received administrative expulsion or have you been sentenced to expulsion? Then the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme is just for you.

An application can also be filed by a foreign national who had a long-term or permanent residence in the Czech Republic, for example, for the purpose of employment or studies and whose residence has been terminated or has not been renewed by the Czech authorities.

What does assistance for a voluntary return include?
The Ministry of the Interior will take care of your trip from the Czech Republic to your country of origin. If necessary, it will also assist you in obtaining your transit permit. Officials of the Ministry of the Interior will help you with the check-in and passport control at the airport in Prague.

What are the benefits of leaving the Czech Republic voluntarily with the help of this programme?
Speed
– if you are a foreign national with a valid travel document, it is possible to carry out your return immediately after termination of all residence-related matters or after a decision on administrative expulsion was issued. The Ministry of the Interior always tries to ensure the fastest trip to your country of origin.

Financial assistance – your air ticket, and possibly a transport ticket in your country of origin, will be purchased by the Ministry of the Interior for you, which means that you can leave the Czech Republic even if you do not have enough money to buy them. You can, of course, also take a piece of luggage with you; luggage transport is included in the price of the air ticket or the transport ticket. In rare cases, other costs associated with your return may also be covered.

Dignified return – when you travel back to your country of origin, you are not escorted by the Police of the Czech Republic or any other official of the Czech Republic’s authorities; you travel like an ordinary tourist.

The possibility of having the period of the exclusion order, which was imposed on the foreign national, reduced – you can apply for this reduction after you return to your country of origin. The condition for filing such an application is that you pay half of the costs of your trip after you return to your country of origin and that you have no other outstanding obligations to the Czech Republic.

Reintegration assistance – in justified cases, it is possible to provide assistance with reintegration in the country of origin after the return through programmes of the Ministry of the Interior of the CR or the International Organization for Migration.
