Cheap labour seen as main contribution to enlarged EU

Cheap labour is the biggest contribution to the EU from its new member states, according to a questionnaire carried out among Czechs, Hungarians, Poles and Slovaks.
An CEORG omnibus research run in the four Visegrad countries showed that 50 per cent in the Czech Republic, and 55 per cent in Hungary and Poland consider a cheap labour force to be their country’s biggest contribution to the EU.

The Slovaks pointed to industriousness and hard work as their main contribution to the European Union (47 %), closely followed by a cheap labour force (46 %).
Poles think their tradition, moral values and religion (33 %) and agricultural products (30 %) can also benefit Europe, while Czechs offer tourist attractions and good vacations (44 %) and an open market for Western products (31 %) as their main attributions.
Hungarians think their culture and art (36 %) and industriousness and hard work (34 %) will contribute to the EU, while the Slovaks are proud to offer their well-educated society (33 %) and creativity and cleverness (30 %).
The survey was conducted by the Central European Opinion Research Group (CEORG).
