Permanent Residence in the Territory of the Czech Republic

Changes in the Legislation Governing Permanent Residences after 01/01/2009
With effect as of 01/01/2009, as a result of a change of the Act No. 326/1999 Coll. on the stay of foreign nationals in the territory of the Czech Republic and on changes to some Acts (hereinafter referred to as the Foreign National Residence Act), the authority to make decisions on applications for permit of permanent residence in the territory of the Czech Republic will change. As of 01/01/2009, the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy, the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, will be authorised to make decisions on all applications for permit of permanent residence in the territory of the Czech Republic as well as to perform all actions in connection with prolongation of the validity of ID cards or with the reported changes concerning the already permitted permanent residences. Regional offices of the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of the Interior were set up where it is possible to file an application for permit of permanent residence in the territory of the Czech Republic on the terms and conditions defined below, or it is possible to contact these offices in connection with other actions to be taken for an already granted permanent residence permit. The proceedings for applications for permanent residence permits started before 01/01/2009 will be completed according to the legislation valid up until now, that is, at the relevant offices of the Foreign Police.
