Experience of Czech Citizens

Since January 2008 the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic has gathered information sent by Czech citizens describing their experience with checks carried out in both German and (less) Austrian border zones. 

Such experience shows that during checks German authorities most often pay attention to the following, more or less, specifically German rules:
  • Checks of travel documents of all passengers
    • Checks of other documents
    • Special attention is paid to passengers on international buses
  • Checks of technical conditions of motor vehicles, including trailers
  • Checks of transported things – including personal belongings – with special attention devoted to:
    • knives,
    • drugs,
    • explosives, including recreational pyrotechnics,
    • other forbidden objects – for example prohibition of radar jammers, paintball pistols (including functionless pistols).
  • With respect to foreign nationals check that conditions for entry into and stay on the German territory are fulfilled Additional questions concerning the purpose of the journey, transported items, and so on
  • Additional questions concerning the purpose of the journey, transported items, and so on
  • Checks for narcotic substances in urine or blood of passengers
Austrian authorities pay special attention mainly to respecting traffic rules. The following are most frequently the subject of checks:
  • Respecting maximum permitted speed.
  • Technical condition of your motor vehicle.
